Connect with your team during the pandemic

The pandemic might be the best thing to happen to the loyalty of your team.

I’m not just wearing rose-colored glasses or trying to conjure some sort of mindset magic. (Though mindset is important.)

Here’s the thing —

There are lots of ways this could go wrong. Employees could feel:

  • Disconnected

  • Unstable

  • Unsupported

There’s also the real threat that the change of scenery and time for reflection has them looking for greener pastures.

However, for nurturing leaders, there is also the real opportunity to connect with your team in ways you never could have before.

How? Compassion and vulnerability. More specifically:

  • Tell your team what’s been tough for you.

  • Ask your team what’s not working for them. Adjust expectations.

  • Don’t act as if working from home right now is like “normal” remote work. These are unique conditions.

  • Increase frequency of one on one meetings.

Now is not the time to “TURTLE” with your team.
