Your open-door policy isn’t enough.

Your open-door policy isn’t enough. 🚪

(And it isn’t just because office doors are moot when working from home.)

I get it.

  • You want to build trust.

  • You want to be approachable.

  • You want to improve communication.

But here’s the reality —

Most employees need more than an “open door” to provide good feedback.

AND

Most managers won’t be ready to receive it in the off chance that they do get useful feedback.

Leaders must be more intentional in the way they communicate.

Feedback from employees is most effective when you —

🍋 Set aside designated time to chat. You need one-on-one meetings each week or every other week.

🍋 Listen fully without responding. It may feel as if your employee is looking for you to take sides or provide an answer. However, it’s almost always better to simply listen. Then, set a time to follow back up at a later date.
