When “Thank you” isn’t enough

In honor of Employee Appreciation Day this weekend --

Sometimes saying "Thank you" isn't making your employees feel truly seen and heard. If you find that knowing when and how to show appreciation to your employees is easier said than done, you're not alone.

Here are some ways of showing appreciation that I've found to be truly effective:

  1. Recognizing and rewarding good work. Provide public recognition, bonuses, or incentives for a job well done.

  2. Offering opportunities for growth and development. Encourage and support employee training, professional development, and career advancement.

  3. Promoting work-life balance. Offer flexible work hours or opportunities for remote work when possible.

  4. Listening to and acting on employee feedback. Encourage open communication and act on the suggestions and concerns of employees.

  5. Providing a supportive and positive work environment. Create a culture that values and respects employees, and actively work to address any issues that may arise.

  6. Showing genuine interest in employees’ lives. Take time to ask employees about their interests, families, and goals, and show empathy and support when needed.

  7. Celebrating successes and milestones. Acknowledge team and individual achievements and celebrate together.

Of course, these tips will resonate more with some employees than with others, but you’ll find that the more you intentionally exercise tips like these, the more naturally they’ll start to come, and the more valued and appreciative your employees will feel, in turn.

📣: Have you tried any of these suggestions before? Are there any others you would add to this list? If you’d like to chat more about it, schedule a free 30-minute virtual session with me here.
