“Whatever you allow, you encourage.” And what it means for your company culture.

Stop sign in blue with lizard resting on top

The person that “never” returns calls.

The person that gossips.

The person that monitors every moment of their employees’ time.

The person that works long hours and makes sure everyone knows it.

The person that tells other people how to do their job.

The person that complains about everything.

The person that comes to work when they’re sick.

The person that spends their day on Facebook.

The person that ignores deadlines.

Leaders, if you allow these behaviors, you’re telling everyone else you’re cool with these behaviors. (No matter what you’re actually saying to people.)

You can’t build a thriving company with these toxic behaviors. It snowballs. And before you know it you have a toxic culture.

Real leaders understand the importance of HEALTHY CONFLICT:

  • Approach conflict with curiosity.

  • Focus on the behavior.

  • Set deadlines. You can’t save every employee from their bad behaviors.
