Open-Mindedness

What exactly do we mean when we say we want our companies to be innovative, open-minded, or fun?

These words are such popular ways to describe our company’s values or culture, that they have nearly become meaningless.

Might I make a suggestion? 💁‍♀️

As you consider your company values and/or culture code, build in some questions that can help clarify whether or not you and your team are living these traits.

Let’s take a look at “Open-Mindedness.” It might be helpful to ask yourself and your team the following questions:

  • Can you hold on to multiple perspectives, including your own, at the same time?

  • Can you embrace the idea that there may be more than one way to approach a situation?

  • Describe the last time that your mind was changed about something?

  • Do you ask open-ended questions, hoping to discover something that you may not have previously known about a topic?

The important thing is that we’re thinking through these buzzwords. What they really mean to our organization and how we can espouse them are critical.

Now it’s your turn - How do you make sure that your values or your company’s values aren’t something you just say? Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn and share your thoughts with me.
