It's your responsibility to find the "bad apples"

four apples being held by hands of person

My garden has been a source of joy this year (especially for my son), but I’m realizing that I’m making one obvious mistake.

As we bring the veggies in each day, we’ve been putting the harvest ON TOP of the harvest from the day before.

The problem becomes obvious when the cucumber at the bottom of the basket has sped up the spoiling process for the whole bunch.

And our batch of perfectly crisp cucumbers have gone soft and moldy.

Which brings me to why you should care —

🍎 If you think that you can keep your “bad apple” from spoiling the whole bunch, you’re kidding yourself. 🍎

And while you should be slow to call an employee a “bad apple”. You should be quick to recognize and declare bad behavior.

We’re all familiar with companies where ethical issues have run rampant. ( *Cough* Wells Fargo *Cough*)

But, it’s not just about ethics. Problematic behavior is contagious.

What I’m trying to say is — Leadership is not for the complacent.

If you’re not willing to follow through on the hard task of holding employees accountable, please don’t lead.
